Teaching

I have over ten years' teaching experience across a number of Earth and Environmental Science, Science Communication, and Astrobiology courses, while working at the University of New South Wales (UNSW, Sydney) and Pennsylvania State University (PSU, USA). I am experienced in coordinating, preparing, and running practical lab classes; setting and grading assessments, including practical exams; and organising and conducting single-day to week-long field excursions.

Instructor, PSU

International Geobiology Course (IGC; 16 students): Sep 2022- Jul 2023
Involved in designing and teaching a six week summer course for graduate (PhD) students, including two weeks of field work in Italy where the students investigated travertine deposits of Acquasanta Terme, sulfur-cycling microbes in Frasassi Caves, and the Bonarelli (OAE 2) event horizon near Gubbio.

Lab & Field Trip Coordinator roles, UNSW

Field Methods and Mapping (Geos2131^; ~20 students): 2014-2018
Second year course, i
ncluded a week-long geological mapping field trip at Rouchel in the Hunter Valley, NSW.

Fundamentals of Geology (Geos1111) and Introduction to Petroleum Engineering and Geology (Ptrl1001*) (joint course, ~100 students): 2012-2017

First year course, included a day-long field trip that introduced basic geological concepts within the Sydney Basin and underlying geology.

Teaching Assistant roles, UNSW

Introduction to Astrobiology: Life in the Universe (BEES2741; ~50 students): 2020
Fully online second year course.

The Science of Science Communication (BEES6800; ~40 students): 2019-2020
Fully online third year course.

Astrobiology: Life in the Universe (BEES6741; ~50 students): 2019
Fully online third year course.

Earth and Environmental Science (Geos1211; ~100 students): 2016-2017
First year course, included a two-day field trip that explored the geology of the Blue Mountains and Bathurst regions of NSW, and included a visit to an active coal mine.

Earth Structures (Geos3171"; ~20 students): 2014-2016
Third year course, included a week-long structural geology field trip at Bermagui on the NSW South Coast.

Tutoring, UNSW

One-on-one or in small groups, outside of class hours, as required.
